Multi Room Audio systems broadcast one or more music sources to 2 or more rooms in the home. Also known as whole home audio systems, these kits let the family listen to their own favourites in their room, or share audio across all rooms at the same time.
For wired whole house systems, the brains behind the music controller is typically installed in a central location like the basement electrical room or a wiring closet. With one or two room kits, the music controller or splitter will be in the room(s).
Wired whole house and multi room audio systems can be broken in two different categories. A-Bus or CAT5 based systems will accept one or more sources and then send the music over CAT5 or CAT6 cable to each music listening location keypad. The keypad will then have an amplifier built in to it and speaker wiring runs from this keypad to the room's speakers.
The second style will have a larger amplifier in a central location, with CAT5 or CAT6 wiring as well as speaker wiring run to each room. The CAT5/6 will be the control cable for the keypad and the speaker wiring goes directly to the speakers. Typically this sort of system provides more power to the speakers, although it is possible with some ABus systems to have in room amplifiers where needed - making them even more flexible.
