Insteon Shut Down
It appears a big brand may have shut its doors. This past week, Insteon users have reported an unfortunate issue where their hubs have stopped working. Insteon hubs are powered by Insteon cloud servers which have seemingly been shut down with no notice, along with online forums. The parent company SmartLabs has yet to offer any communication about the situation, but it's not looking good.
Insteon devices have been out of stock for some time now at smarthome.com and other sellers, including us here at Aartech Pro. There was the chance that the brand was being plagued by supply chain issues like many manufacturers have recently experienced, and there was hope that maybe Insteon was just undergoing rebranding under the Nokia brand name. But with the servers and forums down, a lack of employee connections on social media, and no communication from management, it appears that Insteon is no more.
As a technology, Insteon is still functional, as the line does not rely on WiFi or the cloud to work. All keypad buttons and scenes are still operating, along with any directly linked devices. Those who are running smart home software or hubs that aren't the Insteon Hub will not be affected by the discontinuation of the cloud services.
Of course, Insteon Hub users have options and alternatives to get their system up and running again. We recommend checking out our Insteon Alternatives & Integrations Guide. Users can also migrate over to Lutron Caseta, ZWave, Zigbee, WiFi, or other systems.
SmartLabs has yet to make an official statement to the public, but they have appeared to have shut down Insteon and the Smarthome store. We will do our best to keep everyone updated on the situation and offer support where we can.
