WiFi thermostats can be used to control traditional low voltage heatnig and air conditioning systems as well as 120V or 240V baseboard heating systems. WiFi smart thermostats offer the benefit of scheduling, smart home and smart phone control as well as alerts in some cases. These thermsostats work with the existing WiFi and Internet infrastructure rather than needing automation protocols specific to any one hub.
